REMODELS & ADDITIONS

The depth of Otis’s remodeling experience reflects the richness of Portland’s architectural landscape. We have been entrusted to remodel, restore, or add onto more than 150 homes of nearly every style and era in the region.

We've transformed aging structures into enduring works of fine craftsmanship, We've reconfigured outdated layouts into spaces tailored for contemporary living, and revitalized building systems for efficiency and comfort. In period architecture, our work blends seamlessly with its surroundings. When a homeowner elects to modernize the architecture, our strength lies in creating harmony between old and new so that the results feel effortless.

Working in an inhabited home requires heightened sensitivity to dust control, site security, homeowner privacy, and maintaining positive neighbor relations. Otis’s respectful approach has earned us the confidence of homeowners and design teams who rely on us to deliver exceptional craftsmanship without compromising their peace of mind.

How we do it

Remodels demand the same technical and organizational discipline as new construction. (Also see New Home Construction for a word about Otis's Pre-Construction Services.) We manage remodels with transparency and rigor, and conduct regular Owner/Architect/Contractor meetings to ensure that issues are resolved before they impact the progress of the work. Our financial recordkeeping and change order system are open-book, ensuring that homeowners are always in control of their project's scope, budget, and outcome.

At project closeout, Otis provides a digital Home Owner’s Manual documenting building systems, products, finishes, maintenance recommendations, and warranty information. And for homeowners seeking ongoing support, our Home Maintenance Division provides continued care by the very team who built the home, ensuring it is maintained with the same expertise and attention to detail.
